Finally Shahid Afridi Announce himself When He Will Retire

In July 2010, Afridi announced his retirement from Test cricket. After the 2015 ICC World Cup, he retired from ODI cricket as well. In February 2017, he announced his retirement from T20Is and international cricket.

Pakistani cricketer and a legend of the game, Shahid Afridi, on Monday confirmed that he won’t be retiring from cricket anytime soon during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 season press conference. In PSL 5 he was a part of the Multan Sultans team, and has expressed his desire to lead the team from Kashmir in his last PSL.

This is not the first time Pakistanis have requested the PCB to include a team from Kashmir in the PSL, however, there has been no progress on the proposition to date.

If it happens, it would be a huge statement by Pakistan and the PCB, especially after India’s blatant violations of human rights in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. Earlier, the PCB had said that the next PSL will not include any new teams, however, the management will look at the possible options after PSL 2021.

His remarks were capped by a loud cheer by the audience in Bagh who had gathered to listen to him.

Afridi over there said, “I’ve been deeply humbled by all the love shown to me by the people of Kashmir. I hope that there will be a team from Kashmir in the next edition of the PSL. If there will be a team from Kashmir, I will want to play for that team”.

On Friday (May 15), Afridi had also taken to Twitter to comment on Kashmir. “It does not take a religious belief to feel the agony of Kashmiris…just a right heart at the right place. Save Kashmir,” Afridi had written.

The comments have not sat well with netizens and former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who took to social media to reply about the same.

Expressing disappointment at Afridi’s anti-India comments, Yuvi regretted his call for assistance to ex-Pakistan skipper’s charity.

Last month, Yuvraj and Harbhajan Singh had posted videos in support of Shahid Afridi Foundation which was raising funds for the underprivileged affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier in the day, Harbhajan also reply Afridi for his comments. “This is very upsetting what Shahid Afridi has come up with, talking ill about our country and our Prime Minister. This is just not acceptable,” Bhajji said on India Today show ‘Sports Tak’.
